A Tallahassee, FL native, Austin graduated from Florida State University with a B.A. in international affairs and religion and a B.S. in economics. Following his undergraduate studies, he received an M.A. in religious studies (with an emphasis on Islamic legal history) from the University of Chicago. His legal interests include international human rights law, Central Asian legal history, and the role law can play in the protection or persecution of religious minorities. Austin joined The Journal of Gender, Race & Justice to engage with human rights legal scholarship and work with others who share his passion for social justice issues. After law school graduation, he plans to enter a Ph.D. program and pursue a career in academia.
